Built in 1938 almost single-handedly by Ole Langerud, this rustic structure features both European flair and a unique Oregon Cascades atmosphere. Langerud ran a ski business here for years, together with Hjalmar Hvam. Charlie and Jeanie Sperr turned it into The Ratskeller in 1963. Internationally known in the ski/snowboard community, it has also become something of a mountain tradition for many people traveling in both directions on Hwy 26. Whether you are heading east toward the mountain from Portland, northwest over the the Barlow Pass from Bend, or travelling the way of Sam Barlow & Joel Palmer on the Mt. Hood Loop from Hood River and the Dalles, we hope you’ll make us one of your personal traditions.
